I'm New Here

What to Expect

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO FIND AT CALVARY CHAPEL CLAYTON:

We are a church that seeks to encounter the Lord through dynamic worship and prayer, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, and to evangelize until it reaches every corner of the globe. On a typical Sunday, you will hear from our Senior Pastor, Kevin Edwards. In February of 2008, Pastor Kevin and his family started a fellowship in Clayton, NC, to begin the simple ministry of teaching the Word of God verse-by-verse and chapter-by-chapter while loving and leading the flock.

Coming into a new surrounding can sometimes be awkward, so we have put together this page to acquaint you with our Church and hopefully answer any questions you might have. To review our Statement of Faith, visit our What We Believe page.

Calvary Chapel Clayton is a non-denominational Church focused on the inerrancy of the Bible and the expository teaching from Genesis to Revelation. We are affiliated with the Calvary Chapel Movement, which began with Pastor Chuck Smith in the 1960s. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed to His image through the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational Church, nor do we oppose denominations, only their over-emphasis on doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the Body of Christ.

I Have Questions . . .

What are your service times?

We have Sunday morning service at 9 & 11am. We have Children's Ministry both services  (Calvary Kids: Nursery - 5th grade) and Youth Ministry (6th - 12th grade) available during the 11am service.

We also have a Wednesday night service at 7pm. We have Children's Ministry  (Calvary Kids: Nursery - 5th grade) and Youth Ministry (6th - 12th grade) available during service.

What do you teach?

A primary distinctive of Calvary Chapel is the endeavor to declare to people the whole counsel of God. We are committed to the expositional, verse-by-verse teaching of God’s Word. Simply put, we teach the Bible from Genesis to Revelation!

As we teach, we are using the NKJV version of the Bible.

What is worship like?

Our worship setting and style is primarily contemporary, yet we also embrace and value traditional worship styles, recognizing their richness in doctrine and sound theology. Generally, our time of worship lasts about 20 minutes prior to the teaching of the Word of God.

How should I dress?

Most people attending at our services opt for casual attire like jeans and t-shirts, although some might choose to wear suits and ties. We don't have a specific dress code; our primary wish is for you to feel comfortable.

What do you believe about the Holy Spirit?

At Calvary Chapel Clayton, we believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and we encourage their exercise, but always decently and in order, with an emphasis on the Word of God, which we look to as our primary rule of faith. Check out What We Believe here.

What if I don't speak English?

We offer audio translation and transcription for any language during our Sunday service utilizing a tablet and headphones. Please ask one of our ushers for assistance.

What is the congregational make up?

The diversity within our Church is what we believe Heaven will look like! We have a diverse mix of families and individuals of various ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. United by our shared love for Jesus Christ and a collective desire to deepen our understanding of Him, we come together, transcending any differences in background or social status. We emphasize fostering personal connections with Jesus Christ, achieved through worship, breaking of bread, prayer, studying the Word of God, and fellowship (Acts 2:42).

How do I start serving?

First, we recommend joining us at Church for refreshment through worship and the Word of God. To begin serving, it's essential to have a solid foundation, which includes a commitment of six months of consistent attendance at our Sunday morning services. Concurrently, it's beneficial to engage in one of our Small Groups. Small Group gatherings offer an excellent opportunity to deepen your faith in a relaxed and supportive setting, away from the busyness of the Main Services. After establishing these foundations, we invite you to actively participate in Serving within the Church.

What about Youth?

Are Youth split up between Middle and High School?

The Calvary Youth group for high school and middle school students is essential to Calvary Chapel's ministry. We aim to ignite a passion in the young adults of Calvary Chapel Clayton to start living for Jesus Christ at this stage of their lives instead of waiting until later in life. We delve into the Bible together, exploring it verse-by-verse with strong biblical teaching, and regularly hold events. Our youth group gatherings coincide with the main services, occurring both on Sunday mornings during the 11am service and Wednesday evenings except during Family Service (see below).
On Sundays our Middle and High Schoolers are split up for Bible Study. They worship together, but for Bible Study, Middle Schoolers will be dismissed after worship to a separate room for their teaching. High Schoolers will remain in the Youth Room for their teaching. We do have separate small groups and discipleship for High Schoolers and Middle Schoolers. Some of the big events they do together, like retreats and conferences.

Wednesday nights both Middle and High School students join together for Bible study.

Do you have Children's Ministry?

What is Family Service?

Yes! Calvary Kids is a vibrant and integral ministry at Calvary Chapel, contributing significantly to our collective experience. In every service, we provide dedicated activities for children. The kids come together for their worship session every Sunday morning, then split into different age-specific classes for Bible study. This includes a mix of teaching, games, activities, and crafts, all thoughtfully designed to complement the day's Bible lesson. We strongly encourage parents to engage their children in this dynamic ministry. We prioritize creating a safe, secure, and enjoyable environment for children to immerse themselves in worship and Bible learning. Your kids are sure to have a great time!
Family Service, held on the first Sunday and Wednesday of each month, is tailored for families with middle and high school students. Instead of a separate youth service, students are encouraged to join their parents in the main service. On other Sundays and Wednesdays, the Youth Group gathers concurrently with the main service. For those with younger children, Calvary Kids is recommended, providing a suitable environment for ministry to kids while allowing adults to engage in the main service, focused on worship and Bible teaching, in an atmosphere free of distractions.
