An Open Door Isn’t Always God’s Will

In this verse-by-verse teaching through 1 Samuel 24, titled “An Open Door Isn’t Always God’s Will,” Saul enters the very cave where David and his men are hiding. David has the opportunity to kill the man pursuing him, and his men urge him to take it. Instead, David refuses to take the throne by doing what he knows is wrong.

An opportunity can look like an answer from God, especially when others encourage us to take it. But having the chance to do something does not mean God has given us permission. David chooses to spare Saul, confront him with the truth, and leave judgment in the Lord’s hands.

Are you facing an open door? Before walking through it, ask whether the choice agrees with God’s Word.
