Before You Make the Move, Ask God

In this verse-by-verse teaching through 1 Samuel 23:1–13, titled “Before You Make the Move, Ask God,” David hears that the Philistines are attacking Keilah. He has the experience to act, and the need is urgent. Still, his first response is to inquire of the Lord.

David seeks God again when his men are afraid, and again when Saul plots to trap him. His example challenges us to ask whether we seek the Lord before making decisions or rely on what seems obvious, familiar, or urgent. We may not receive answers the way David did, but we can seek God through His Word, prayer, biblical wisdom, and godly counsel.
